Treatment of Archaeological Transfer-printed Ware  

Description
Mid-19th century transfer-printed ware. Ceramic is in pieces, broken into 19 sherds. Staining and discoloration visible 

throughout. Accretions present along break edges. Areas of loss around rim of plate, fill required for stabilization. 

Treatment Summary 

  • Solvent cleaning (water and acetone)

  • Mechanical reduction of accretions and iron corrosion product

  • Consolidation of fragment

  • Reassembled ceramic vessel

  • Plaster fill cast, finished, and in-painted
